Dr. Jonathan Weir became the Purple Claw, after being given the magic claw by a native tribe in the heart of Africa in 1943 when the US Army Medical corps crashed landed there. The claw gives him super-strength. After his retirement from adventuring in 1970 he passed the claw and its super-strength power to his son Peter who was also a medical doctor. Peter passed the claw in turn in the 2000s to his daughter Rebecca who is the current wielder of the Purple Claw. Rebecca Weir is a part-time librarian in her 30s.
